I'd like to share with you the experience that I had watching Blue Jasmine a few days ago. It's the new Woody Ellen, which I love! It tells about Jasmine (Cate Blanchett), an attractive and wealthy looking woman in her late 40's, who has to move in with her sister due to unfortunate incidents. The apartment is smaller, and the style is very different from what Jasmine's used to in her prior life. She and her sister seem to be very different in all ways possible. Ginger is more of a simple and free spirited individual. She always has a man in her life and seems happy and settled in her simplicity. The actress who plays her, Sally Hawkins, I love ever since I saw Happy Go Lucky for the first time. She was happy then too.
Without spoiling to much of what happens next, I'll try and say that. I had learnt a lot from watching it. It took a little time of digesting, though. Jasmine was supposedly living the life I thought I had wanted when all of a sudden it changed. No warning signs, but merely a glass of Vodka to soothe the pain. Talking to one's self might help. Not in public. Ok, I'm thinking I would do quite well with that simple happiness without chasing illusions. I was stressed, humored and very sympathetic during the movie. I wanted to give her a hug and slap her in the face. At some point I wanted to snap! in a good way... I enjoyed watching it and Ms. Blanchett is an absolute inspiration to me. Woody's neurotic sense of humor also pops out elegantly from time to time. My ranking? two thumbs up!
